No Dramas

No teasing kangaroos!

Hi!

Thanks to Stuart's homeopathic prowess, Kim is no longer stressed about flying! In fact, she was probably the most non-airsick person on the entire plane. She was constantly wanting someone to play games her perky-eyed, energetic self. This is a real breakthrough and we are amazed at the power of homeopathy. All she did was take some tiny white pills and try to think happy thoughts. Miracle! If you are experiencing anything from stress to allergies to fairly severe sickness, Danberly now whole-heartedly recommends homeopathy as the most surprisingly effective and powerful remedy.

We have now landed in Melbourne, Australia, into the warm house of Shaun Peel, his wife Rachael and 2 kids (6 year old Matt, and 18 month Kyla). The Peelers are great, and it is really nice to be with such warm friends. Kim and I feel very comfortable here and the kids add a great atmosphere of fun and craziness.

Rachael is a sweet, super-friendly supermom. She has made us feel at home here with her family, and we are secretly taking notes on how to be such good parents. Matt is the most macho Aussie man we have met. He makes us all feel like limp-wristed artist-types as he sits on the couch scratching his nuts and yelling curses at the sports channel. Kyla, who is less than 2 years old, is in the 100th percentile for baby head size; there are almost no babies in the world that can compete with her. Somehow she manages to pull it off, and she looks like a baby Bjork with Shaun's non-Asian-yet-slanty eyes. You can find her oftentimes ejoying her favorite passtime of grabbing anything that is put away and throwing it behind her onto the floor. Compared to all other kids and babies we have seen around Melbourne, these kids are by far the cutest and coolest, so Kim and I are glad that we don't have to babysit any ugly or second-rate kids.

Melbourne is a surprisingly awesome city. It offers the full-blown city atmosphere of subways and shops everywhere and museums and all types of ethnic foods, but it has a safe, clean feeling. Probably because guns are very rare here, and although there is crime, it is not on the same violent level as it is in American cities.

It feels so safe, in fact, that we left our camera on the side of a "footy" field (Australian Rules Football), and had a great time punting and handballing the ball to each other. Unfortunately, when we turned around, someone had snuck off with our precious little gem. We searched for a long time and then came back the next day to search some more, unable to believe that someone had nicked our camera. Even more disarming, was how close -- less than 30 meters from where we were so happily playing "ball". The really important lesson we learned was that Kim can punt a footy ball with surprising accuracy! (OK not accuracy . . . but it goes far). Our World Nomads travel insurance supposedly pays for this sort of thing, so we have already bought a replacement Canon Ixus 850.

The photos from the footy game are lost, as well as some great travelling shots, but, as they say in Melbourne, "no worries, no worries, no dramas at all". We'll post some photos from our road trip, which we must be off to now. We are going on a three-day camping adventure today, along the Great Ocean Road . Matt is now hovering over our shoulder, making us feel like we should hurry up and help him pack up the cars.

Love,

Dan&Kim

Glad to hear about the success with the Homeopathics. Derick and I have been using them for years. They are great for everything from headaches, nausea, food poisoning, mosquito bites, allergies, jet lag, sleeplessness, etc. They really work! Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Glad you had insurance for the camera, and thanks for the link. Derick and I travel a lot and that is a great resource. Can't wait to read the next diary entry. Have a great trip! Eva & Derick

now that you mention theivery in the nice place of melbourne, someone broke into our car when i was there and nicked all of our backpacks. (i think the whole "no worries" schtick may be a ruse to placate the recently theived. and they say things like nicked because it amuses foreigners.) never trust a country where there most recognized animal has a pocket.

My apologies for not writing every day as I teased you with. I was away visiting with my cousins during a time of loss, not that's a good excuse, but a pretty darn good one. I enjoyed the visit immensely, reconnecting as adults with seven cousins, and two second cousins, as well as the wife (hostess) of one of my elder cousins. Their names are in order oldest to youngest:Irwin,Sandra,Rozzi,Lisa,Roxanne,Harry, and Zoe. Our hostess goes by the name of Jane. I also met some of Irwin & Jane's close friends. The public memorial for my cousin Aaron was held at the House of Blues on the sunset strip. The most touching part was his oldest son Max's eulogy to his dad. No celebrities really, not unless you count presidential hopeful Ron Paul who spoke of Aaron as a true American Patriot for making his documentary. There was a full-blown Gospel group that performed a few songs, a Marvin Gaye duet 'You're All I Need To Get By'(it's hush-hush but supposedly Aaron had something to do with a movie in the works about the life and death of Marvin Gaye), his brother Irwin spoke, and a few friends from boyhood and business told amusing and touching stories. All the while photographs of Aaron's life, family and friends flashed across the screen. And then lunch was served. It's now late and I'm tired, so I will say goodnight to you two darlings. My love goes out to you both, keep each other warm and happy. P.S. How can I send along a song track that I'd like to share with you?

Hooray - you made it to Melbourne! - My favorite Aussie city. Do indulge in many a good coffee for me. Have a long macchiato - or a cafe latté. Visit the flinders lane and Howey place precinct for tiny hole-in the wall cafes + Lygon Street (Brunetti - famous Italian coffee Shrine) and Brunswick Street - Fitzroy, Ackland Street - St Kilda, Southbank - and more. Have a blast in the land of Oz. Love James - and Dan check my blog too! www.brandwithin.com/blog :-)
