In Deep With the Locals

Thank you all for your support and love! We hear the sweet voices of you all, our friends and families echoing our minds as we travel throughout Bali.

Since we've landed in Bali, it seems that so much has happened, so many sweet and perfect details and so many tasty moments, that we can only take a few morsels and pass them along. (Note: we will be in Bali for ten more days, plenty of time for you to grab a cheap flight out here and meet us.)

We have really gotten "in deep" in the last few days . . . we were in Lovina, and we ate at the popular authentic Warung Bambu, and we met the amazing and energetic owners, a Balinese man named Nyoman and his German wife Beate. We got to talking, and we signed up for their authentic Bali tour and we also cooked up a feast in their cooking class.

Dan ended up building a website for Nyoman, promoting Nyoman's true passion of is building high-quality dream-home style villas in the Bali countryside (in the village, Manukesa, where he was born).

We have been staying for Nyoman's hand-built Villa Manuk for the last four nights, and it is truly a paradise! We sleep to far-off chanting celebrating the fourth full moon, mixed with the croaking of rice fields full of frogs. In the days we laze around on our second-story balcony, in the breeze and wonder of the vast and perfect views! We are truly in the authentic Bali . . . there are no tourists or hawkers, just farmers and sweet smiles.

We have eaten authentic home-cooked Balinese food every meal for almost a full week now, to the point that Dan now refuses to use silverware. You can see the website: Maha Raja-Bali and see the place and enjoy the photographs and imagine Kim and I there smiling like children!

Now we are off to Ubud, the arty, new age-y center of Bali, to curl up with our inner selves and ponder our chakras.

Love,

Dan&Kim

What a cool experience. Your hosts look very friendly but beware of the chief as he is known to be a strong Wampum believer. I'm jealous - I want to go out and search for authentic Balinese food too. Please wrap some up in a little napkin and put in in your front pocket so I can have a little taste when you return. Did you search the long grass for your lost camera?

You have been on my mind so I thought I'd sign in and leave a comment saying so. :) Can't wait to meet Miss Kim and Dan, you are special! Love you!

Now this is what I'm talking about. It really gives you a different perspective when you visit rural areas of countries that are not so industrialized and commercialized. There is a lot to be said for the simplicity of life. Very peaceful and fulfilling, indeed. So happy you both are integrating so much diversity into this journey. It is more fun and exciting that way, not to mention rewarding. If I could, I would meet you there and probably stay. I have emailed my friend in Japan to find out where they stay in Puket and will send you that information as soon as I have it. In the meantime, keep having a wonderful time and as always, thank you for sharing your adventures with us. I really feel like I'm with you and now am hooked. Love to you both. Kio tsukete. Auntie!!!
