![]() After a CRAZY bus ride from Trang to Krabi and a loud boat ride to Railay, we've made it to paradise. Kim has found a mode of transportation that is even more stressful than flying: bus rides in Asian countries. Never have we been so adamantly for drug testing bus drivers then when we found ourselves suddenly speeding though traffic in a non-existent suicide lane, passing in no-passing zones over steep hills, whipping around sharp turns without slowing down...all we could do was white-knuckle our armrests and pretend it wasn't happening.
The beaches of southern Thailand are the most stunning, sublime places we have ever seen. The water of the Andaman Sea is warm, inviting and crystal-green, with huge limestone cliffs wrap the smooth golden-sand beaches. We have been having a great time with Jenny, Roddy and Paul, all of whom are avid rock climbers and generally great people. Paul and Roddy are in Thailand teaching English. We have formed a little clan. Our typical day consists of: a morning rock climbing session (yes, Kim is rock climbing like a champ!), an unbelievably delicious Thai lunch, reading, getting massages, swimming, kayaking, more rock climbing, then we cook a rice and tuna dinner, drink some Singha, and play cards long into the night. Next we head north, to a national park, then to Kho Phi Phi, an island with legendary beauty and well-deserved tourism, recently devastated by the tsunami. We'll keep you posted! Yeah, it looks like there's very little reason to leave the beach. Definitely makes the daily grind of working life seem like a distant memory. Would love to see a shot of your calloused hands after all of those climbs.
