Dan Delivers Danberly

Dan, back from Asia and still refusing to shave, smiles with Russell Brown

For the 2008 ADIM Conference, Dan was invited to deliver a 40 minute presentation on the subject of "travel". Since the audience was 100 of the world's top art directors, graphic designers and photographers, he centered the presentation around "design & travel".

The ADIM conference (Art Directors Invitational Masterclass) is led by the mad scientist of Photoshop and senior creative director of Adobe, Russell Brown. You will notice him in the video as the man with a towering orange hairstyle. Each year, the conference has a theme; this year's theme was "classic movie monsters".

During the conference, each participant created a monster-themed 16x20" lenticular poster (remember those old baseball cards where you tilted the card and they guy swung a bat? That's lenticular). Much to Dan's co-participants' horror, Dan's poster depicts him firing a gun into the side of his own head to rid himself of his "monsters". Dan's graphic design teachers will glow to know that his poster won the award for "best use of white space". After the conference, Dan built a website to show off the participant projects.

Dan has officially launched the new headquarters of SOS Media in San Francisco. Basically, that means that he has found reliable Internet access. You can find him peering out from behind his laptop in the corners of San Francisco coffee shops, wearing a green hat and thumbing his beard intellectually. He has been working, on average, 8 hours a day, like a normal working person. In contrast, he has been consuming, on average, 1.3 quesadillas per day.

Thanks to all the people who showed concern and curiosity about our unconventional approach to being engaged. Please breathe deeply and know that it is all, as they say, good. Absence (and Absinth, which is legal in San Francisco) makes hearts burn with wonder, love and possibilities.

Love, Dan

PS. Kim is preparing a post for you all, and lest I let any proverbial cats out of any metaphoric bags, you'll just have to stay tuned.

Hi there guys. Not read your blog for a while and see you're now back home in the US of A. I'm sure it beats the rain, grey clouds and misery of the UK!!! It seems like a lifetime since those days in Laos and Cambodia, it's still very much in our hearts however. We have settled back into home life although I have to admit that I'm struggling with the old 9-5 a little. Only got until November and then the stork will be bringing us something if you catch my drift!!! Yes that's right, Santa is going to be bringing us a beautiful lovely screaming little baby for Christmas this year:-) The travelling bug is definitely over! Hope you are both well and big loves to you both. I hear Richard is still enjoying living the single life on his never ending trip! x

Hi Dan. Yesterday I went to get my haircut and had the privilege of meeting your mother, Pauline, who just gushed about you the whole time. She told me all about you and your fiance, Kimberly's, travels and told me to take a look at your site. Well, I'm here, and I must say, it is great and really inspiring! I hope once I finish school to travel the world too. You guys are a beautiful couple, and best of luck to you both! Tell your mom I took a look so she knows her promotions were not in vain ;) Bye!
