Hello Dear Readers! It's been so long! About the lack of images: Kim doesn’t have a functioning camera. For now at least, we will suffice with using our imaginations.
Kim has left Arizona on a quest for something. That something changes all the time. Sometimes it's independence, or family, or fresh air, or enlightenment, or Krispy Kreme doughnuts and coffee, or the meaning of life. That something doesn't matter so much. What matters is that her quest is taking her to many places where she is learning and experiencing new and wondrous things. Kim’s drive north to Idaho was punctuated by a restful overnight stop at The Garden Cottage Bed and Breakfast in Cedar City, Utah. She got a sweet deal on a last-minute rate. She stayed in the super-fancy Rose Room, complete with intense floral prints which coated every square inch of the room. The bathroom had an antique claw-foot bathtub — perfect to soak away all the miles of driving. After a restful night in a big, poofy bed she drove on for the last leg of the trip. Once in Idaho, the plan was to find a cute home, plant a garden, and find an awesome job. Unfortunately, after many disheartening hours of pouring over ads on Craigslist and the local paper, she turned up empty-handed. Jobs in Boise pay waaaaaaaaaay less than what Kim is used to making in Arizona or even Wyoming. All suitable cute houses were just too expensive. An important component of the housing situation was a big luscious garden, so an apartment just wouldn't do. Depression set in. Worse, Kim was beginning to realize that Boise wasn't the idyllic paradise she had been imagining. She thought that there was a cool downtown community of like-minded people, but it now seemed like a very small group of people in a sea of Republicans, hillbillies and worse, Republican-hillbillies. Not that Kim has anything against Republicans and hillbillies. She has several of both on both sides of her family that she loves dearly. But Boise just didn't feel right. She shuddered to think of signing a year lease in a place she didn't love just to prove that she could take care of herself. Ahhhhh, but sometimes our failed plans are really just stepping stones to bigger and better things. Inspiration arrived. Kim decided it would be fun to find an internship at an organic farm to learn all she’s ever wanted to know about being a farm girl. Plus, it's fun to play in the dirt. As if on cue, Kim's Aunt Lisa invited her to attend an herb class and visit MaryJane Butters at MaryJanes Farm. Coincidentally, Kim had stumbled upon MaryJane's website several months prior and had been thoroughly inspired with what this amazing woman was doing. Visiting MaryJane’s farm was amazing — as amazing as Kim had imagined. MaryJane has a huge organic farm. She also has a bed and breakfast where guests stay in cute tent cabins (a bed and breakfast has always been one of Kim's dreams), a farm school, a line of organic packaged foods (even REI carries them), her own authored books, her own magazines and more. And MaryJane is one of the coolest ladies around. The tent cabins were sooooooo cute! The farm had chickens and berries and tons of veggies and a greenhouse and a commercial kitchen, even a cow... it's just dreamy! After some great discussions over some delicious meals, MaryJane learned that Kim was floating around in limbo, looking to work on a farm… so she asked Kim to stay and work on the farm for the summer! In a few days Kim will begin living her farm girl fantasy in the pastures of Idaho. She’ll let you know how it goes. Love Kim Lisa Marie posted on 2008-06-07 at 8:30 am Hi, Kim.
